National Aquarium in Baltimore Blacktip Reef

This exciting new shark lagoon houses thousands of species, including 20 blacktip sharks, a marine rescue turtle, two zebra sharks, a wobbegong, a napoleon wrasse, two whiptail rays, and other assorted rays. Project scope included life support system (LSS) and control upgrades. The multitude of species and design circulation requirements required thorough understanding and extreme sensitivity on the part of Whiting-Turner’s project professionals. The work also included structural preservation of concrete and recoating of waterproofing for the 4,000 SF shark lagoon, architectural renovation, acrylic panels, the addition of a concrete stair, exhibit renovations, and two, off-site projects in preparation for acceptance of new animals.
