Bryn Mawr North Building

The North Building is a three-story 25,800 SF middle school academic building. This is the first of several projects that make up the Campus Master Plan at The Bryn Mawr School for Girls. The North Building was designed to mimic the architectural style of one of the original stone buildings on campus constructed in the early 1800s. The building has a Butler stone façade and a slate roof, and the structure is load-bearing CMU with steel framing. This project includes an elevator, two science labs, a performing art studio, and two elevated terraces both with curved retaining walls. The terraces incorporate ornamental iron railings with the school’s custom owl logo and bluestone caps on the walls. One very unique element of this project was a glass-encased central staircase that opens into the main lobby, which is also a central gathering place for campus activity. The North Building is the cornerstone of the school’s quadrangle, created by a series of colonnades that connect the adjacent buildings.
