For the Harkness Track & Field project, Whiting-Turner removed approximately 90,000 SF of existing Astro-Turf surface and replaced it with Field Turf, which is a synthetic turf that incorporates rubber and sand into the field to allow the surface to feel and play like natural grass; it requires less maintenance and has better draining capability. Also added were long-jump pits along with pole-vault plant boxes and new communication boxes (around the entire field) for commencement ceremonies. Once the new synthetic field was complete, we removed the existing track surface and installed a new track surface. The new track surface is approximately 80,000 SF.
