Research Building
This project involves the first of three new research buildings within the Stanford School of Medicine’s Institutes and Centers. The building and systems are designed to meet a “LEED® for Labs” rating of Silver, exceeding California Title 24 Energy Efficiency Standards by 20%. This is of the first and largest research buildings in California to be partially funded by a grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). The facility houses select research from the Stem Cell Biology Regenerative Medicine Institute, the Cancer Center, and the Neurosciences Institute. The building is a 200,000 GSF, three-story structural steel building (vibration criteria of 2,000 micro-inches/second) clad with limestone, metal panels, and curtainwall with sunshades. The program includes 80,000 SF of flexible laboratory research space and a 33,000 SF vivarium that will be a state-of-the-art barrier facility for transgenic mice.
