Aircraft Maintenance Hangar at MCAS New River
Construction of a Type I hangar to accommodate V-22 Osprey Aircraft with an attached two-story operations and administration building. The entire structure is built on a reinforced concrete pile foundation with the hangar bay (49,000 SF) constructed of structural steel cantilever trusses to provide a continuous 515-foot hangar bay opening. The hangar bay skin is metal wall panels and folding fabric doors with standing seam metal for the roof, interior amenities include AFFF fire suppression system, infrared heaters, underground waste oil, compressed air, five-ton bridge cranes and grounding loops. The operations and administration area is a two-story (23,500 SF per floor) structural steel and CMU facility. It houses aircraft maintenance support facilities, teaching classrooms and offices. The exterior skin and roof are the same as the hangar bay with inclusion of some blast resistance windows, interior finishes include painted CMU or gypsum board, VCT, carpet, acoustical ceiling tile and elevator. The project integrates ATFP requirements as well as sustainable design. Project meets LEED® certification.
