Whiting-Turner
Consolidated Theatres at
University Town Center
During this project Whiting-Turner overcame a challenging three-month delay for underground utilities and still completed on time. In order to overcome the delay and still meet the summer blockbuster season, Whiting-Turner decided to re-sequence the installation of the stadium seating structural steel. Instead of installing the steel after the MEP work, Whiting-Turner installed it first. With the steel in place, a scaffold/platform system was erected at the mezzanine elevation, which allowed all MEP trades to work at the same time. At one point during the project all 14 auditoriums had this platform system in place.
Royale 14 Cinemas opened on June 1, 2007 at the center of UTC. The 66,640 SF modern cinema-house complex features 3,300 stadium seats with high-back rocker seating, 14 fully expanded wall-to-wall screens, and Dolby Digital, SDDS Digital, and DTS Digital sound.
