Checked Baggage Inspection System/Baggage Handling System

This project was a new checked baggage inspection system/baggage handling system (CBIS/BHS). Work included the demolition of a gate for a new 45,000 SF, two-story structure that houses the TSA inspection system and reconciliation areas on the first level and retail space on the second level. The project involved construction in an active terminal tug area of seven new make-up devices and new conveyor feeds/catwalks, all while maintaining airline and terminal operations.

South Lobby Renovation

This portion of the work at FLL involved:

  • New ticket lobby configuration for JetBlue
  • Demolition/construction of 5,000 SF of existing airline ticket offices
  • Relocation of five airlines to newly constructed airline ticket offices
  • 10,000 SF renovated lobby area with raised ceilings, lighting, terrazzo and glass walls
  • Reconfiguration of conveyor system
  • Reconfigured conveyor system and input points at four curbside locations

Circulation Ceiling

After completion of the South Lobby, we managed the replacement of 9,600 SF of ceiling in the circulation area adjacent to the ticket counters. The work included new linear slot diffusers, new LED light fixtures and metal perforated ACT to match the adjacent JetBlue lobby.

Gate F1 and Hold Room

The project also included a new hold room and gate apron, as well as a new walkway bridge and passenger boarding bridge. The hold room and gate apron was relocated from its original location to accommodate the CBIS structure. The pavement at the new location was modified to meet the requirements of the gate apron. Work was done concurrently with a new fuel line and fuel hydrant that was tapped into the existing fuel main for the new gate location. The project included build-out of a holdroom, removal and replacement of 12,000 SF of asphalt and concrete pavement, and the addition of 9,400 SF of topping slab to provide proper slope at apron.

Modernization Phase II

A multi-phase modernization included the renovation of an existing men’s and women’s restroom, construction of 6,500 SF of airline office space and a new men’s and women’s restroom, a new 16,500 SF crew lounge for JetBlue in an existing shell space, and alterations in the ticketing lobby to add ticket counters and passenger queuing space.
