PBI Baggage Handling System Improvements

About

THIS PROJECT

The Baggage Handling System Improvements to the Palm Beach International Airport included a complete replacement of the existing 30-year-old baggage handling system and installation of a new automated, in-line baggage handling system and explosive detection screening machines.

The project involved 13 phases of construction and included:

  • 8,130 LF of baggage handling conveyors
  • Six baggage claim carousels
  • Five baggage make-up units
  • Three explosive detection screening machines

A new 20,000 SF, air-conditioned building enclosure was constructed in an open-air portion of the terminal to house the new explosive detection machines and in-line baggage handling system. In addition, 45,000 SF of terrazzo was installed to replace the existing bag claim hall tile and carpet.
