The Virginia Museum of History and Culture (VMHC) renovation and expansion project is part of the most extensive renovation in the institution’s 200-year history, modernizing nearly 98,000 SF and adding about 48,000 SF. The museum, home to a nine-million-item collection, gained about 50 percent more exhibition and gallery space as a result.

This project revamped the Great Hall, a two-story entrance atrium and event space that features century-old “Kline Kars” manufactured in Richmond. The “Kline Kar” featured in the VMHC is one of only two of the automobiles in existence. It also upgraded the 1990 research library, adding a rare book and manuscript suite. Additionally, this project included an immersive orientation theater with a floor screen, a café and museum store, consolidated third-floor offices, enhanced green space, renovated bathrooms, as well as an education, conference and community center.
