The 242,000 SF Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Innovation is known as University of Maryland, College Park’s signature building on campus. The fast-tracked project includes a six-story, curved building with a main tower that has a 95,000 SF unitized glass curtainwall system. The extensive curtainwall, combined with the building’s interior glass partitioning, provide ample natural light and create a building with a see-through effect. The eastern 120-foot portion of the main tower extends into the 100-year-old flood plain of the adjacent Paint Branch river. Therefore, this portion of the building has no ground floor. The above five stories of the east portion are supported by six columns and plate girders with a 30-foot cantilever at the far end.
