iFLY Westchester

About

THIS PROJECT

iFLY Indoor Skydiving facilities allow their customers to experience the thrill of skydiving in a safe, controlled environment. The 5,000 SF iFLY Westchester has a vertical wind tunnel with four 450-horsepower fans at the top to draw air through the flight chamber and then push it back down the sides through return air towers. This leads to an inlet contractor that compresses and speeds up the air up to 180 mph before it re-enters the flight chamber. The friction of the fast-moving air results in temperature increase, so the turning vanes also act as cooling coils with chilled water pumped through them to keep the temperature within the wind tunnel comfortable. The result is a smooth column of air that enables customers to fly.

The facility was built with a 12,500 SF surrounding T-Wall system on a steeply sloped site and includes a 35-car parking lot. The project was completed 35 days ahead of the original schedule. At the official grand opening, Whiting-Turner was presented with an Award of Excellence and has since completed three other iFLY facilities.
