The Smith Center at Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore, Maryland is a 58,000 SF athletic center adjacent and connecting to the school’s existing Memorial Gym. The facility also supports the athletic field and stadium which Whiting-Turner previously completed. The new building includes:

The project also included renovation of the existing 31,000 SF Memorial Gym lower level into classrooms, support spaces and storage. There were also updates to the existing gym, including paint, HVAC, windows and roofing. The project took 18 months to complete and including tying into an occupied building. Student access to the existing building and around the site had to be maintained at all times. Construction had to be coordinated around sporting and school events year-round. Due to the tight site, there was also minimal laydown area, resulting in an as-needed delivery schedule for most materials.
