CHALLENGES

Only a third of the footprint of the building was located on dry land. The balance of the building is cantelivered and was built over the lagoon. Because the job was surrounded on three sides by water and other logistical challenges, Whiting-Turner made the decision to load all the structural steel and a 40-ton crane onto barges and cross the lagoon. The entire structural steel for the building was erected from the water. This approach saved two months on the schedule.
