Unilever Ice Cream Plant
The project required W-T to renovate an existing 400,000 SF plant, which was utilized as a packaging area, and construct approximately 150,000 SF in additional buildings to support the new process needs. The facility is one of the world’s largest ice cream manufacturing plants, and includes:
- 27 air handling unit
- 11,500 SF engine room
- 22,400 SF dairy receiving area
- 47,800 SF cold storage area with ASRS delivery system and IMP walls
- 18,650 SF silo area
- 213,000 SF packaging area
Electrical components include seven new 5000-amp transformers/switchboards, utilization of two existing 5000-amp transformers/switchboards, and one backup generator for emergency unloading of the cold storage building. In addition, Whiting-Turner managed the process piping and packaging installation for Phase 1 and Phase 2 packaging equipment. Overall, there was 150,000 LF of piping installed on the project.
The project involved nearly 1.1 million manhours with no lost-time accidents.
