This project was an adaptive reuse project that converted a 72,000 SF warehouse into an office and outpatient space for the Johns Hopkins Community Psychiatry Department. The new facility includes a physical therapy room, observation rooms with two-way mirrors, offices with dense partitions and a kitchen area for distributing prepared food for patients.

Overall, the most unique aspect of the project was the use of many different types of acoustical materials to prevent the transmission of sound between spaces. Due to the sensitivity of the facility’s patients, the project required a high level of acoustic attenuation. This included special acoustical drywall and ceiling tiles, rubberized flooring and acoustic padding below the flooring. There were also specific sealants to material at window mullions that were shared by multiple spaces and the use of putty pads at electric boxes.
