Corbett-Parmelee Dining Hall and Lobby Renovation

About

THIS PROJECT

This project renovated and unified Corbett and Parmelee Halls into one dining center, known as The Foundry. The dining center provides eight micro-restaurants, a back-of-house kitchen, scullery and a private dining room. The reconfigured space can seat approximately 600 people and serves over 2,300 meals per day.

Construction was completed in three phases over eight months to accommodate owner occupancy and operational needs. Abatement, a complete interior demolition and reconfiguration were necessary to expand the space and open to the Corbett Hall lobby, which was also renovated and restored to honor its original 1960s mid-century modern aesthetic. A grand exterior entryway was built, which is universally accessible and provides residents and visitors with a landmark lantern element at the entrance.

The following items were repurposed and incorporated into the food hall-inspired dining center:

  • A Conex shipping container was repurposed to house a micro-restaurant centered on the food truck theme.
  • An airplane wing was installed and is suspended above the Passport venue.
  • Bowling alley floors were repurposed and implemented throughout the space.

This project achieved LEED® Gold certification and received the Loyal E. Horton Award: Residential Dining Facility, Large School – Gold from the National Association of College and University Food Services.
