Texas Tech West Village Student Housing Complex

About

THIS PROJECT

The West Village Student Housing Complex, built for upper-division and graduate students, provides space for residence, studying, gathering and dining within a setting of landscaped courtyards and public art. This 233,000 SF project included the design-build of two four-story residence halls with 184 apartment-style units and a total of 456 beds. The buildings include a full kitchen in each unit and the Raider Exchange, a retail and food service facility with indoor and outdoor seating.

The courtyards feature “Texas Rising,” a public art display presenting steel, internally lit stars emerging from the ground. These represent the Stars of Texas and symbolize the journeys of Texas Tech students, the evolution of the University and the coming-of-age of the entire state.

The facility is pursuing LEED® certification. The complex reduces energy consumption and potable water use through items such as low-flow plumbing fixtures and native plants. This was the first project on campus to implement Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction for its walls, which are incredibly energy-efficient, use fewer materials and create less waste. The facilities also focus on indoor air-quality, green housekeeping practices, and controllability of lighting and thermal comfort.
