THIS PROJECT

Cooke Elementary is a 70,000 SF, 600-student elementary school on a 17-acre site for the Red Clay Consolidated School District. The K-5 school features a central administration and learning center, a single-story wing for kindergarten and first grade, and a two-story wing for second through fifth grades. The front entry features a LEGO wall and the Bus Tank aquarium that is mounted inside of a school bus. The bus is a section of an actual recycled bus with working lights. The school also includes:

  • High-bay gymnasium/cafeteria wing
  • Media center
  • Multi-purpose community room
  • Resource rooms

The school utilizes an energy-efficient Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) HVAC system, and the building is oriented and designed to provide natural light to all areas. This project also included roadway improvements to Graves Road and US Route 41, parking for 150+ vehicles, as well as site development and new utilities.

This project won the following awards:

  • 2016 Best K-12 Education project by Engineering News-Record
  • 2016 Brick in Architecture Bronze Award by Brick Industry Association
