Vinson Hall Parking Garage

About

THIS PROJECT

After completing multiple renovations on the campus, Vinson Hall Retirement Community enlisted Whiting-Turner to building a new parking garage adjacent to their existing Arleigh Burke Pavilion. The two-level, 51,400 SF garage is partially underground and consists of cast-in-place concrete/retaining walls for the lower level and a precast upper level. There is a new entrance vestibule, as well as a porte-cochere drop-off area on the upper deck.

A new pedestrian walkway/bridge was built to connect the upper level to the existing building with the new entrance vestibule. Since the original building’s brick was no longer available, three different colored bricks were used for the new bridge columns and were hand-sorted to match the existing building pattern. The project also included demolition of a parking lot, along with site retaining walls, porte-cochere and removal of a connector bridge and entrance vestibule structure that was attached to the building.
