The West Pettigrew Parking Deck is a precast, 219,500 SF, six-story parking garage with over 700 spaces. The project was phased to fast track the construction schedule, and there is also an adjacent surface lot which adds over 140 spaces. The deck was constructed to serve as parking for the Chesterfield Building tenants, as well as public parking for the surrounding downtown area.

This project hand many unique challenges because the land was acquired by combining 10 different parcels of land, and work required the decommissioning of an existing road. There were multiple large utility mains that ran through the existing road that needed to be relocated prior to starting construction of the parking deck. Whiting-Turner worked closely with the City of Durham to see that the adjacent property owners were not affected, while still making sure that the schedule milestones were maintained.
