Target Berkeley

About

THIS PROJECT

Target Berkeley is a 30,000 SF remodel of an existing space near the UC Berkeley campus. The facility includes retail space, a pharmacy, groceries and a café. This project is part of recent initiative by Target to trend towards smaller, flexible formats in urban, high-traffic locations. Target focused on integrating the store design with the characteristics of the surrounding neighborhood. For Target Berkeley, this resulted in a hand-painted mural from a local artist to tie in elements of the neighborhood and community.

MONTH SCHEDULE

The existing building was originally four different buildings that were remodeled over the years to form one large space, which created many challenges. Since the space had limited as-built documentation, we utilized 3D laser scanning to generate the baseline model, so the design team could properly account for existing conditions. To get the most out of the 3D scan, we also performed the demolition work early before scanning the facility.

This was a fast-paced project which required an accelerated schedule to meet the Target’s opening date. To help speed up staffing and stocking, we carefully coordinated with Target to begin the process before construction was substantially complete.
