About

THIS PROJECT

This project involved treatment and associated structure improvements for Little Blue Valley Sewer District at their Atherton Wastewater Treatment Plant. The facility’s system improvements included:

  • Bypass pumping for 150 MGD
  • 96-inch fiberglass piping and steel piping
  • Multi-path flow meter for 96-inch steel piping
  • Water filtration
  • Carbon fiber reinforcement for elevated concrete slab
  • Screw conveyor system with weigh belt
  • High-pressure solids pumping system with holding tank
  • Ultraviolet disinfection system
  • SCADA upgrades
  • Effluent pump station with four submersible pumps
  • Two positive displacement pumps for increased thickened solids pumping
  • Junction structures
  • Chemical feed system and tank storage
  • Fluidized bed incineration system capable of 60 dry tons per day with heat exchangers and advanced emissions control systems
  • Control building, odor control building, solids disposal building and an incineration building
  • Ash holding lagoons

The project also involved all associated sitework infrastructure to support the new improvements. Major equipment and material handling system upgrades included a new sludge incinerator, scrubber, process heat exchangers, sand feed conveyance, sludge transfer and ash disposal systems. The plant services an area of nearly 278 square miles throughout Kansas City and surrounding suburbs, with a 52 MGD effluent flow that was maintained throughout the entire upgrade.
